For me, it all started with a simple question: “Where do I begin?” This guide is the cumulation of my research and discussion with tech industry insiders, offering a roadmap to help you thrive in the dynamic realm of cybersecurity.

Begin by crafting your LinkedIn profile if you haven’t already. LinkedIn serves as a gateway to industry insights and professional connections. 2. Join Cyber Communities
Join cyber communities such as the Women in Tech & Cyber Hub (WITCH) on LinkedIn and explore community events listed by DFIR Diva (dfirdiva.com) to foster connections and get insights from experienced professionals. Keep an eye out for events like the Security Cleared Expo and the Security Bsides Conference, which provide networking opportunities with companies, and like-minded individuals.
3. Explore Learning Opportunities
Upskill yourself through accredited programs offered by the IASME Consortium. Coming up this summer 2024 is program with 2-3 days training followed by a mentored (and paid) role. Stay alert to the latest news for more information. Browse free and affordable training bootcamps tailored to your learning needs. There are numerous ones listed on the Online Training Resources page. Highlights include on the gov.uk website (search for “find a skills bootcamp”), and platforms like EdX (edx.org) and Coursera (coursera.org). Also, consider apprenticeships listed on the QA.com website.
4. Master Essential Skills
Develop a strong foundation in programming languages such as Python, which is essential to the cybersecurity skill set. Familiarise yourself with SQL for managing large datasets effectively. Embrace a mindset of continuous learning and exploration. If you want to challenge yourself, delve into areas like digital forensics to broaden your skill set.

Cultivate a habit of staying informed about emerging technologies and threats in the cybersecurity industry.
